Who holds the glass?
Hello, and welcome to The Wine Gazette!
My name is Timothée Marissal, and I am an oenologist. I earned the French national oenology diploma in Bordeaux (class of 2013–2015), then left to make wine elsewhere… quite a long way elsewhere! First Portugal, then Brazil, and finally Sweden, where I set up a vineyard as technical director. Yes, Sweden: no wine chauvinism here!
So why Burgundy?
It caught me by surprise. On a trip, I fell in love with the region, and above all with its wines, so fine and so precise. Having watched vines grow in three very different climates, I was fascinated by that very Burgundian idea: the same Pinot Noir, the same Chardonnay, changing face from one village to the next, sometimes from one plot to its neighbour. Burgundy spent a thousand years naming its land; it takes at least a blog to try to understand it!
Four hands, two palates
I run this blog with Margot. A sharp taster and as passionate about Burgundy as I am (sometimes more, don't tell her…), she tastes, debates, disagrees, and that is exactly how it should be. Two palates are better than one!
What you'll find here
Tasting notes, first of all: bottles at every level, from the regional Bourgogne on the supermarket shelf to the Grands Crus. Each wine is described plainly: what is in the glass, what to serve it with, and whether it is worth the money.
Then, articles to help you understand: appellations, climats, the history of the vineyards. The aim is simple: to point you in the right direction, whether you are a seasoned enthusiast or simply lost in front of the shelf.
Our rules
- When an estate sends us a bottle, we say so at the top of the article, and it changes nothing in what we write.
- No article is paid for.
- The opinions are ours. They are not gospel: let's discuss them!
