Bourgogne

Regional appellation

All of Burgundy

Red, white and rosé

The Bourgogne appellation is the foundation of the whole pyramid. It can be produced across the region, from Chablis down to the Mâconnais, and accounts for more than half of all Burgundy wine.

Reds are made from Pinot Noir, whites from Chardonnay. Since 2017 a Bourgogne made only from vines in the Côte d'Or can carry the name Bourgogne Côte d'Or.

In the hands of a good grower, often from young vines or plots just below a village appellation, a Bourgogne can be one of the best-value bottles in France.
