Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin opens the Côte de Nuits from the north and is the largest of its village appellations. Only red wine is made here, from Pinot Noir.

The village has more Grands Crus than any other on the Côte: Chambertin, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Chapelle-, Charmes-, Griotte-, Latricières-, Mazis-, Mazoyères- and Ruchottes-Chambertin, lined up mid-slope south of the village.

Expect structured wines, often firmer in youth than their neighbours in Morey or Chambolle, that reward patience.
