Nuits-Saint-Georges

Village appellation

Côte de Nuits

Mostly red, a little white

Nuits-Saint-Georges gave its name to the whole Côte de Nuits. The appellation spreads over two communes, Nuits-Saint-Georges itself and Prémeaux-Prissey to the south.

It has no Grand Cru, a rare thing for such a famous name, but around forty Premiers Crus, among them Les Saint-Georges, Les Vaucrains, Les Pruliers and Les Vignes Rondes.

The wines are mostly red, from Pinot Noir: firm, dark-fruited and often a little earthy in their youth. A small amount of white is also made.
